Who i am

Page content

I’m Adrian, aka polar-node. Linux Systems Administrator & Cloud Specialist, based in Almería, Spain.

I’ve been working with computers since building my first one in the 1990s. In 2010 I started building and repairing computers for others too, working as a technician and helpdesk before moving into systems administration. I spent almost 3 years formally in a Linux Systems Administrator & Cloud Specialist role, and I currently work independently, doing freelance IT and sysadmin work: infrastructure, automation, monitoring, and troubleshooting for clients and my own projects.

What I work with

Virtualization Daily driver: Proxmox, VMware

Exploring: XCP-ng

Monitoring Daily driver: Zabbix, CheckMK Also use: Prometheus, Grafana

Exploring: Netdata, OpenTelemetry, DataDog

Backups Daily driver: Bacula, Veeam

Automation Daily driver: Ansible

Want to learn: Puppet, Chef

Cloud Daily driver: AWS

Also use: GCP, Azure

IaC Still learning: CloudFormation, Terraform (OpenTofu)

How I approach infrastructure

Understand first. Improve second. Automate whenever possible.

I look for the real cause instead of a quick patch, and I document what I learn so the next person, often future me, doesn’t have to solve it twice.

Certifications

  • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (next: AWS CloudOps or similar)
  • Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE)
  • Currently studying for LPIC-1, RHCSA next
